EEEA-M1: Introduction, Knowledge & Safe Behaviour in Hazardous Area

Course Overview

 This foundational course equips personnel working in hazardous areas with essential knowledge to operate safely in such environments. Participants will develop awareness of explosive atmospheres, understand area classification principles, and learn how to apply explosion protection methods in real-world scenarios. The course is conducted with reference to key international standards IEC 60079-0 (General Requirements), IEC 60079-14 (Electrical Installations Design, Selection and Erection), and IEC 60079-17 (Inspection and Maintenance). Through a blend of interactive lectures, visual demonstrations, group discussions, case studies, and practical hands-on activities, participants will build the competency and safe behaviours needed for tasks such as equipment handling, cable glanding, inspection, and permit-to-work procedures. Short assessments are conducted throughout to evaluate understanding and learning outcomes.

Target Group

This course is designed for engineers and personnel working in hazardous areas, including those involved in operations, maintenance, and electrical systems where flammable gases, vapors, or combustible dusts may be present. It is also well suited for individuals engaged in the installation, inspection, or maintenance of Ex-rated equipment who require a solid foundation in hazardous area awareness. No prior experience in hazardous areas is required. However, a basic understanding of electrical or mechanical systems, along with general workplace safety practices, is recommended.
