Course Overview
The course will introduce various methods of inspection for offshore pipelines. While in-line-inspection is also one of the most widely used and effective methods, the question of non-piggable and difficult-to-inspect pipelines often transforms the character of a pipeline inspection to a more unconventional project. Moreover, specific design and pipeline materials in the offshore industry, the operationally difficult circumstances and the impracticability of verification dig-outs have led to some bespoke solutions. These consist of tethered and robotic internal inspection methods as well as remote and robotic external inspection devices. The course will give an overview from simple modifications of existing technology to recent developments of completely new approaches.

1. Offshore pipelines – the inspection aspect
Integrity threats for offshore pipelines, Corrosion, cracking, third party damage, etc.
Inspection scenarios for offshore pipelines, special pipe types and operational conditions
What are the difficulties? Non-piggable pipelines, difficult to inspect pipelines
2. Inspection using ILI – what are the conditions
What are the differences to onshore? Long distance, tracking, etc.
Launching and Receiving offshore, vertical and subsea launching
Understanding ILI inspection technologies, MFL and UT as standard techniques
Data handling and ILI Verification offshore
3. Inspection using umbilical tools and crawlers
Bespoke inspection technologies, special UT methods, TOFD, Eddy Current, …
Umbilical and tethered tools, what solutions exist?
Crawlers and robotic tools, methods of propulsion, special solutions
4. External Inspection – an emerging option
External inspection technologies, PECT, Long range UT, etc.
Preparation and planning for inspection, cleaning, deployment, etc.
Inspection of Static Risers, Inspection in the splash zone
Flexible risers, standard methods and recent developments
Inspection of flowlines and export pipelines applications to other offshore structures

No special prerequisites, but technical understanding. Target group: Onshore and Offshore Integrity Engineers working with Operators, Integrity Consultants, Service Providers and Classification/Certification Bodies.
